Jeung San Do Sangsaeng Research Institute
1. Purpose of Foundation
The Jeung San Do Sangsaeng Research Institute was established to reveal both the process leading up to Autumn Gaebyeok and the true face of the Later Heaven culture on the basis of the teachings of Jeung-san Sangjenim and Taemonim. It seeks to spread these teachings throughout the world in various languages.
Through in-depth research on the core precepts revealed to us by Jeung-san Sangjenim - Wonsibanbon (Seeking Out the Beginning and Returning to the Origin), the Later Heaven Gaebyeok (the Great Transition into the Later Period of the Cosmic Year), Haewon (the Resolution of Bitterness and Grief), Sangsaeng (Mutual Life-Giving and Life-saving), Boeun (Requital of Benevolence) - the Research Institute now strives to globalize and popularize Jeung San Do throughout the world and thus to present a new road of hope for humanity for the time of the great transformation.
2. A Brief History
First opened in September of 1998, the institute began full operations by December that year after recruiting a total of 32 PhD-level researchers. The institute is now divided into two branches: the research department consisting of Korean studies, Eastern philosophy, Western philosophy, the social sciences, and creative writing; and the translation department, consisting of English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Hindi, and Mongolian translation teams.
Our researchers and translators operate both individually and in teams. Their work is thoroughly supplemented with occasional seminars, colloquiums with visiting professors and exchanges through external academic events. Research is published in the form of academic articles, pamphlets, or conveyed to the world through lectures televised on the Sangsaeng Television Broadcasting (STB) network.
Jeung San Do has recently fully translated a Korean history book Hwandangogi into Korean and published it with extensive commentary after many years of hard work by Jongdosanim Ahn Gyeong-jeon. Work to correct the history of the Korean people and to illustrate their origin and that of all mankind is progressing actively based on this book. Many researchers from various nations are translating the book into different languages, and based on these works, are actively giving lectures in the US, Europe and Asia in order to establish the truth of history.
We have hosted a total of 47 colloquium sessions up to now at the STB Studio and in universities. Topics have included discussions on Western philosophers as Karl Jaspers, Alfred Whitehead, and Ken Wilber, as well as on ancient Korean thought and world religions such as Buddhism, Confucianism, and Daoism. Colloquiums have also focused on comparing the indigenous ways of thinking, religious traditions, theology, and customs of the Korean people with the historical and ideological legacy of China, India, northern nomadic tribes, the Xiongnu, the Roman Empire, and other nations. More than anything, we have strived to find the historical and ideological correlations with the single global family illustrated in the Hwandangogi.
At the Research Institute, we establish the core precepts of Jeung San Do through seminars and symposia. We review the teachings of Sangjenim and Taemonim, and specific details of their Cheonjigongsa (Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth), while substantiating them with historical references and confirming them by examining their correlation with the process of modern civilizational development. The results are then compiled into the collections and other publications. Research on various topics and figures mentioned in the Dojeon (Holy Scripture of Dao; Jeung San Do's sacred text) are published either in pamphlets or in the <Sangsaeng-Series> in order to broaden the meaning of certain themes.
The Research Institute also publishes various other scholarly materials such as the Cultural Encyclopedia of Korean Customs, the Dictionary of Dojeon Terminology for Translation Purposes, the Collection of the Core Precepts of Jeung San Do, Collections of Donghak Research, and Discussions on the Validity of the Hwandangogi, and seeks to popularize and globalize these and various other topics of Jeung San Do philosophy in cooperation with STB.
By properly reexamining the distorted history of East Asia and extensively drawing from the vast historical materials related to ancient Korean history, the Research Institute will continue to pursue research on the fundamental backbone of human coexistence and delve deeper into the cultural legacy of our history from its roots to the modern era, while establishing links to the core precepts of Jeung San Do. These results shall be translated into various languages and shared with the world's people. Based on this we will pursue cooperative research with scholars from around the world.
3. Recruitment of Translators and Editors
The Research Institute continues to recruit both Korean and foreign translators for translation of the Dojeon and historical documents. We are in urgent need of native English, Spanish, German, Arabic, Portuguese, Vietnamese, May-Indonesian, Italian, Greek, Japanese and Chinese speakers capable of translating and supervising translations from Korean to their native languages as well as talented Koreans for Russian, Mongolian, Arabic, Hindi, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Vietnamese and Malay-Indonesian translation.
